Collaboration Tools
One of management’s roles is to establish and maintain an environment that provides a level of information exchange that supports organizational objectives. Every organization operates its own information economy which recognizes information as the currency with value.
The default tools for sharing information are eMail, telephone, and instant messaging. They work well up to a point. Work that is complex, fast moving, and involves many players requires more. At the Enterprise level this might manifest as the need to manage all content, i.e. documents, audio, and video in a common repository with a rational structure. At the Departmental level there may be a need for systems which allow the management of business processes (i.e. workflow). At the Project Team level, there may be a need for a shared workspace that tracks deliverables, meetings, discussions, and actions.
As the “central banker” of information in your organization, it is helpful to establish an orderly and manageable “market”. Do you have a suitable platform to redirect a random, ad hoc, information economy into one that:
- Captures key organizational knowledge;
- Allows for easy retrieval and archiving;
- Manages business processes to protect organizational integrity; and,
- Provides transparency and allows you to “know what you know”?
Work with us to define the who, what, where, how, when, and why of organization information management challenges. The tools are there. What’s required is the time and space to understand, evaluate and implement.
